2022-08-11 - Follow me on YouTube!
Follow me on YouTube! It’s a bit redundant to both create videos and keep this blog updated, so this is probably the last post here! At least in the current format. Maybe I’ll revamp the blog into something different in the future.

2021-12-02 - Fleshmeadow - The Bloodbath of Birth
I was on my way to work while listening to Fleshmeadow and it struck me that this song is amazing and not entirely outside my reach. So in the evening I went to the studio and gave it a shot! I just played the final part of the song, and it’s not very tight, but it was loads of fun!
I had to crank the spring tension up a few notches just to be able to reach that 244 bpm double bass.

2021-04-08 - Belphegor - The Crown Massacre
I’m definitely not ready to play anything at 250 bpm, but I simply couldn’t resist! It took me about a week (over 3-4 sessions) to get this one down, and even if it’s not perfect, it felt absolutely amazing to record this! I’m ridiculously proud of myself!

2021-04-05 - Belphegor - Anus Dei
FINALLY! After 6 years in the making, I’m starting to reach my goals! Belphegor has from the very first day been on my list of bands to cover, and playing through a song like this feels absolutely amazing.

A great triumph! A full song, with some double bass action and other fun stuff!

Stillbirth – Fictional Entertainment
I guess you could say that this is my first cover! It’s short, it’s sloppy, and I kind of messed up with the trigger recording, but hey.

Practice Session – 2018-11-02
Jamming and practicing! Testing my new GoPros. It’s awesome to be able to shoot both the pedals and on top! Just need to properly record the triggers though.

Howdy!
As usual, it’s been a while. This is a video of some of the progress I’ve been making, and some of the exercises and routines I’ve been following. More to come!

Practice Session, 2018-04-01
Posting has been lacking, but practice has not! This is from my practice session yesterday, with some jamming, double bass and whatnot. I believe it’s the first video with my pedal triggers! I’m back on Czarcie Kopyto now (from a brief stint with Demon Drives), after relaxing the springs quite a bit, along with some other adjustments. More on that in a later video. I’m also experimenting a lot with heavier sticks (although this particular session happens to include lighter ones…).

Double Bass Practice, 2017-04
Some more double bass practice. One thing I’ve noticed is that in the beginning, when finding the fast motion, my foot was really stuck to the pedal. Moving it the slightest left or right threw me off immediately. But the more I played, I found that the motion got more relaxed and I could start to sway a little. Nothing close to a full swivel, but a slight swaying. I’m hoping that it might be the start of something good.

Double Bass Journey
I cut together a video of my double bass experiments, practice and development during the past year and a half. I suck enormously at slower speeds, and development is really slow. What got my motivation up was discovering a motion that suddenly allowed me to reach the higher speeds. It started out almost like a twitching motion, but then again not quite. And I could absolutely not control it in any meaningful way, as starting and stopping was and still is really tricky.

Blast Beat Practice 3
I took another shot at blasting away at various speeds. And the snares are off because it makes it so much easier to distinguish the individual hits. Have fun!

Subway Practice 1
It’s been a while! But I haven’t been idle. Despite a lot of issues with my hands, I’ve been trying to practice as much as possible, although I’ve pulled back a notch on hand practice and focused more on my feet (videos coming soon!). I guess that’s a good thing, since feet practice has been frustrating and fruitless up until just recently.
The things I’ve been working on the most is “subway practice”, which I’ll tell you about in this video!

Blast Beat Practice 2, 200-240 bpm
I took a break for about three weeks recently, where I didn’t touch the sticks, and this is the second time I play since then. Letting your body rest can be very powerful sometimes.
In these short videos, I play around some with a paradiddle, some rolls and a blast beat. I tried to keep them pretty similar, as I decided to progress from 200 to 240 bpm, in increments of 10.

Blast Beat Practice
I’ve been practicing my blast beats, of course. This is a video at 200 bpm, doing a blast beat with the snares off. Having the snares off gives me better rebound and it makes me feel better. I usually alternate between having them on and off.
I think I used more fingers for this blast beat, especially for the left hand. I practice both wrist and fingers, but for higher speeds (which I still consider this to be) I tend to last longer using fingers.

Injuries and Issues
Getting Used to Injuries One of the most annoying things about being passionate about something new, something that’s fairly physical, is my tendency to get injured. Usually it’s nothing severe, but it can still stop me from doing the things I love from time to time.
I’ve been an on-and-off runner for the past ten years or so, but due to various injuries it’s been mostly off. I strained the soles of my feet a couple of years ago, which led me to completely stop running for a long while.

State 1: July 2015
This is my second post in the series of discussing state. It is now July 2015, and it’s been 4-5 months since I started drumming. I went to the rehearsal place today and recorded some videos, showcasing my current situation. Some is good, some is bad, and some is really crappy. But you know, I’m working on it.
Let’s take a look at some regular goofing off, some blast beats, and some kick drum practice.

Double Bass Inspiration
Getting better at double bass, or just the feet in general, is a difficult and frustrating process. With my hands I see progress, but with my feet it just feels hopeless sometimes. When I’m feeling extra low, I tend to watch these excellent videos.

State 0: March 2015
It’s now July 2015, and this post is looking back a few month, back to March. This is going to be the first post in a series where I once in a while describe my current state. Have I progressed? Do I have more control? What can I do today that I couldn’t do yesterday?
Full disclosure: Before March, my total drumming experience consisted of the basic drumming lessons during music class in school (15 years ago), and the occasional drum kit fiddling at the rehearsal place when I was playing guitar with my now defunct death metal band (https://www.
