State 1: July 2015
By Guts
This is my second post in the series of discussing state. It is now July 2015, and it’s been 4-5 months since I started drumming. I went to the rehearsal place today and recorded some videos, showcasing my current situation. Some is good, some is bad, and some is really crappy. But you know, I’m working on it.
Let’s take a look at some regular goofing off, some blast beats, and some kick drum practice. This post also premieres my YouTube Channel!
Some everything, and some blast beats at 180 bpm
Not my best moment, but hey, do I even have any of those yet? I really need to slow down and work more on endurance and precision.
I totally lose it after the first blast part, but that first part is pretty nice.
Double bass practice
For this one I’m practicing the heel-down technique, going at 95 bpm. It looks simple, but oh yes, the pain.
Here’s some heel-up practice, first showing 110 bpm which feels pretty okay.
Then we have the same technique, heel-up, but at 125 bpm which is a lot more flaky. You can see my left foot (especially the beater) going bonkers. When I try the right foot alone, it feels fine. But when I try to isolate the left foot I can feel that it’s still very uneven, and the hits don’t come through as they should.
